The popular boy-band One Direction has released a new song. It’s called “Drag Me Down“; the first track off their upcoming 5th studio album, and the first track they’ve released since Zayn Malik left the group earlier this year.
(Coincidentally, Zayn just announced he has signed to RCA Records and will be releasing new music soon. Can’t wait to hear his new music!)
I was listening to the 1 minute and 30 second preview on iTunes yesterday, and couldn’t help thinking… the lyrics kinda sound like something a Christian artist would write…
I mean, it’s a secular love song– there’s no doubt about that! But I think the lyrics in the chorus, “All my life, you stood by me when no one else was ever behind me. All these lights, they can’t blind me. With your love, nobody can drag me down…“, depending on how you interpret it, really describe the unfailing love of our Heavenly Father.
God stands by us in the tough times when no one else seems to care. The “bright lights”, being a metaphor for things like peer pressure, they can’t get to us because with His love, nobody can drag us down. Psalm 119:114 says that God is “our refuge and our shield.” He will protect us because we’re putting hope in His word.
